What’s Next?

I chose to go to school for art because it is my passion and because I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.  Not only that but I wanted to learn how to get better and learn new skills within the art field.  But when it came to what kind of job I wanted after college, I struggled.  Some areas of study are pretty straight forward and it’s easy to see the future path.  With art, there are many many different avenues you could take for the future.  Sometimes it gets overwhelming  and its hard to push through.  My biggest piece of advice is this. Don’t let this stop you from pursuing your dreams or getting your degree in what you love to do, even if it is the scarier path.

I can say this because I am there.  I am currently trying to find a job that is within my degree or even something I like doing.  It’s hard and it’s a lot of hard work.  There has been a lot of self-doubt but I don’t ever regret going to college to get an art degree.  Has it been easy? No, not at all but I would not trade my art degree for something that would have been easier because I love art and if you are determined and open minded enough, you can make that art degree work for you and prove other people wrong for doubting you, including yourself.

So for me, my next steps are looking for a job, continuing to make artwork and applying to exhibitions/art fairs.  I am also working to slowly continue treating my art as a business and putting myself out there.  Those are my goals and I am determined enough to make those happen.  What are your goals and dreams that you are pursuing?
